As we are celebrating Earth Day, we are also pleased to announce the revitalization of our partnership with TERRA (The Electronic Reuse and Recycling Alliance) and Done With It. This collaboration signifies our renewed dedication to a sustainable future through our Free Headphone Recycling Program.
The e-waste crisis
Today and in the future, sustainable e-waste management stands as a cornerstone of a fair and interconnected global economy. The urgency of this matter is underscored by alarming statistics on e-waste:
- More than 50 million tons of e-waste is generated annually worldwide.
- E-waste accounts for 70% of the toxic waste entering landfills, but only accounts for 2% of America’s trash.
- The U.S. is the #1 producer of e-waste. America produces 9.4 million tons of e-waste per year.
- Global e-waste will grow to 120 million tons by 2050.
The good news about e-waste
As the e-waste crisis escalates, the good news is that nearly 100% of e-waste can be reused or recycled for materials recovery. That’s why TERRA has curated an extensive network of e-Stewards and R2 Certified device refurbishment and recycling experts across North America. This alliance aims to maximize the sustainable utilization of natural resources while curbing the hazardous impact of e-waste on our environment, preventing its infiltration into our air, soil, and waterways by redirecting used electronics to responsible, certified solutions providers.
Steven Napoli, President & CEO of TERRA, underscores the critical importance of partnering with certified recyclers, “Only certified recyclers with either an R2 or e-Stewards certification can be trusted to securely and sustainably process used electronics,” he explains, “They adhere to rigorous standards and make continuous investments in best-practices to mitigate the dangers to human health and the environment associated with the improper disposal of e-waste.”
